The born Team's Analysis

The born Job Advertising Index remained static in September, holding at 46 points, amid uncertain market conditions.

While many will have been hoping for the index to show signs of a recovery in Q4 of 2009, overall the market remained unchanged. The main generalise job boards did see job advertising volumes increase month-on-month, however these gains were cancelled out by negative movement in the niche boards.

Even so, several specialist job sites did experienced increases in advertising levels, with some of the established boards seeing the first positive movement in advert volumes this year.

Despite the static level of the index the figures did show some positives. 57% of the job boards tracked experienced an increase in advertising levels, month-on-month. Also, from a sector perspective, the retail sector saw strong growth, while the finance sector finally exhibited some modest signs of improved hiring activity.
