The born Team's Analysis
The born Job Advertising Index jumped 4 points in January, up to 51 points, from 47 points.
The increase of 4 points was the highest since February 2008 and will be seen by many as a clear signal that the recovery has arrived. The lift in the index is a great contrast to the 9 point decline shown by the index in January 2009.
However, despite the rise there are signs that the difficulties of 2009 are not yet behind us. Several of the generalist job boards monitored by the index did not see increases in average job advertising levels. In addition, the advertising volumes are significantly lower than optimal.
Month-on-month, less than 50% of all job boards monitored by the index actually experienced an advertising volume increase, which suggests the lift is not sector wide and is being driven by some 'key performing' job sites.
